A porcupine in July

Are there porcupines up in the trees all year round? That's the question I want to answer in 2021, as I continue my rambles in the Rio Grande Bosque. I spotted the porcupine shown above on July 12. When I first saw him he was happily sprawled over a branch, and apparently asleep. By the time I got through the underbrush for a better shot, he was watching me. As far as I know he didn't move a muscle, except for the ones controlling his right eyelids.
